Secretary Thomas, Boys & Girls Club of Milford Host US Civics Trivia Event

(Milford, CT) – This evening, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas and the Boys & Girls Club of Milford teamed up to host a U.S. civics trivia event for families. Tonight’s event is part of a larger series of family-friendly trivia events hosted by the Office of the Secretary of the State to get children ages 7 and up interested in getting involved in their communities.

“It is our responsibility to give the next generations the tools they need to step up as future leaders,” Thomas said. “By making civics fun and entertaining, we hope to give these students a positive experience that they can build on as they become active participants in their communities, while helping parents learn at the same time.”

These events are kid-friendly, but appropriate for anyone interested in learning more about how government works. They are meant to be informal spaces to invite people to learn in a fun setting, with games, prizes and pizza.

“With municipal elections just a few months away, the events are also a good reminder for adults to focus on what is happening in their community,” Thomas said. “I know we sometimes don’t like to admit it, but we all could use a refresher on how to be civically engaged!”

The Office of the Secretary of the State began hosting civic trivia events earlier this year and will be bringing similar events to cities and towns all across the state in the months to come.

“Tonight, was a tremendous event that allowed youth and families to engage in positive family time, while also learning about civics and the government,” said Megan Altomare, CEO, The Boys & Girls Club of Milford. “The Boys & Girls Club of Milford is excited to partner with Secretary Thomas on this endeavor and to work to teach our communities about advocacy and getting involved.”
