Secretary-elect Thomas Names Jacqueline Kozin As Deputy Secretary Of The State
(Hartford, CT) – Today Secretary of the State-elect Stephanie Thomas announced that Jacqueline Kozin will serve as Deputy Secretary of the State.
“Our agency is responsible for a number of critical duties, like protecting the right to vote and expanding ballot access as well as supporting Connecticut’s business community,” Thomas said. “Jacqueline's wide ranging professional experience, keen understanding of government and strategic mind will serve the office well. I am thrilled she will join the office and look forward to working with her to engage more voters and elevate businesses."
“The Secretary of the State's office is truly the office of the people as it oversees the mechanism that gives them a voice: elections,” Kozin said. “I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve in this role and will work nonstop to ensure Secretary-elect Thomas's vision for the office is implemented, making our state a better place to live and work.”
Kozin will be sworn into the position after inauguration ceremonies on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023. Incumbent Gabe Rosenberg will continue to serve as Chief of Staff and General Counsel.
Bio of Jacqueline Kozin, Deputy Secretary of the State
Jacqueline Kozin has dedicated her career to public service, working in non-profits, advocacy organizations, political campaigns and government agencies.
Kozin started her career at the Civic Education Project, an international non-profit organization that worked to support democracy through the development of social sciences and civics curricula in universities throughout the then-newly democratic countries in Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union.
Greatly impacted by 9/11, she returned to Connecticut to work on political campaigns and served as a legislative aide for State Senator Ed Meyer. In 2010, Kozin managed the campaign for Kevin Lembo for State Comptroller and following his election win, served as Legislative Director and Director of Intergovernmental and Community Affairs in the Office of the State Comptroller. In 2018, she joined the campaign of Ned Lamont for Governor as Deputy Campaign Manager. She became Executive Director of the Connecticut Democratic Party in 2019, navigating the party through the disruptive years of the coronavirus pandemic.
Most recently, Kozin served as Special Advisor and Chief of Government Affairs at the Connecticut Paid Leave Authority, helping launch the state’s newly established program.
Kozin graduated from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, with a master’s degree in international affairs and a focus on media and communications. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Albertus Magnus College. Kozin grew up in New Haven and lives in Hartford.
