Little Time Remains to Register for August 9th Primary Election

Deadline for mail-in and online registration is Thursday, August 4th

HARTFORD – Primary Election Day, Tuesday, August 9th, is getting close. The deadline to register by mail or online is getting even closer.

For registered voters who are unaffiliated and would like to change their party designation by mail in time to vote in their new party in the August 9th primary, their application must be postmarked no later than Thursday, August 4th, 2022.

For unregistered voters who would like to register by mail in time to vote in the August 9th primary, their application must be received no later than Thursday, August 4th, 2022.

Those registering to vote online must do so by 11:59 pm, and those registering to vote at the DMV must do so by the close of business on August 4th, 2022. Voters can register to vote online at myvote.ct.gov/register.

The last day to register to vote or change party designations from unaffiliated to Democrat or Republican, in person in their town’s Registrar of Voters’ office is August 8th by noon.

Voters must be a registered Republican or Democrat in order to vote in the primary. However, if you are currently registered to a party and would like to change your registration to vote in another party’s primary, the 90-day deadline has already passed.

There is no Election Day Registration in Connecticut for Primary Elections.

Voters can always check their registration status, find their polling place, and confirm their absentee ballot was received at myvote.ct.gov/lookup.
