Secretary Merrill to Co-Chair the National Association of Secretaries of State Elections Committee
Secretary Merrill will also serve on the Election Infrastructure Subsector Government Coordinating Council
HARTFORD - Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill will co-chair the Elections Committee of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) for 2021-2022. Secretary Merrill will also serve on the Election Infrastructure Subsector Government Coordinating Council (EIC-GSS).
“I am honored to Chair the NASS Elections Committee this year, particularly in light of the increase in misinformation, false claims of fraudulent elections, and threats to state and local election officials,” said Secretary Merrill. “Connecticut and American elections are free, fair, and secure, and I look forward to working with my colleagues, including the hard-working local election officials of both parties from across our nation, to fight election misinformation and ensure that American elections remain protected and trustworthy for every voter.”
The co-chairs of the Elections Committee will serve until the conclusion of the Summer 2022 NASS meeting. The Elections Committee is dedicated to educating and informing NASS members about policies and practices related to election administration at both the state and federal level. This includes tracking proposed federal legislation and election reform proposals and following the activities of relevant federal agencies and congressional committees. The Committee also provides a forum for members to discuss strategies for facilitating voter participation and share innovative practices on voter education and outreach. The EIS-GCC works to improve communication across the sector, provide resources for members, and support election infrastructure overall. Other members of the council include individuals from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Election Center, the International Association of Government Officials, the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), and the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC).
Secretary Merrill served as the President of NASS in 2016-2017 and is a former Co-Chair of the Business Services Committee and the EIC-GSS.
