Statement of Secretary of the State Denise Merrill on the Governor's Executive Order Regarding Absentee Ballots

"No Connecticut voter should have to choose between their health and their right to vote, and today's executive order means they won't have to.

"Polling places will remain open, but every eligible Connecticut voter will be able to get an absentee ballot for the August primary if they want to avoid their polling place due to COVID-19.

"The legislature should change the absentee ballot statute to make a global pandemic a valid excuse to vote by mail so that voters will have the same choice in November."
