Secretary Merrill Announces a Center for Election Innovation & Research Grant to Boost Voter Education and Participation
$2.1 million grant makes unprecedented voter information campaign possible
HARTFORD – Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill today announced that the Office of the Connecticut Secretary of the State has received a $2.1 million grant from the Center for Election Innovation & Research (CEIR) to educate voters on the absentee ballot process and the safety of polling places, bolster voter registration, and communicate with underserved communities. The CEIR grant will allow the 2020 voter education effort to expand to television, and to ensure that every possible eligible voter is aware of how to register and vote.
“COVID-19 has made the 2020 election unique in Connecticut history, and presents particular challenges in communicating to voters how they can participate in the election and make their voices heard,” said Secretary Merrill. “This grant from the Center for Election Innovation & Research allows my office to create an unprecedented effort to speak directly to voters – to encourage them to participate, to explain their options, and to make sure that they know how to cast their ballots. “

The Center for Election Innovation & Research (CEIR) is a non-profit that works with election experts from around the country and from both sides of the aisle. CEIR seeks to build voter trust and confidence, increase voter participation, and improve the efficiency of election administration.
