Secretary Merrill Receives the Resignation of State Senators Beth Bye, Terry Gerratana, and Tim Larson
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill today received the resignation of State Senators Beth Bye, Terry Gerratana, and Tim Larson, effective as of the close of business on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. The letters of resignation are attached to this release.
Under state law, the governor has ten days to issue a writ of election to choose a successor in the 5th, 6th, and 3rd Senate Districts. That special election must be held on the 46th day after the issuance of the writ of election. Major party conventions must take place by 36 days before the special election.
