Making Apostilles Easy: Secretary Thomas Unveils New Online Tool to Streamline International Document Certification
(Hartford, Connecticut) – The Office of the Connecticut Secretary of the State has launched a new online Apostille Application to help individuals and businesses certify documents for use in other countries.
Under the new system, customers can complete their apostille request online, mail in their documents, and receive real-time updates by email and through a secure tracking tool, making the process easier to understand and easier to complete.
“Connecticut residents use apostilles for many important life events—whether they’re adopting a child from another country, attending school abroad, or expanding a business internationally,” said Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas. “This new application makes it easier to request what you need, stay informed, and complete the process with confidence. It’s one more way we’re helping people connect with government services in a clear, secure, and convenient way.”
An apostille is an official certification that verifies the authenticity of a signature, seal, or stamp on public documents intended for use in foreign countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention. Common documents that require an apostille include birth, death, and marriage certificates, divorce decrees, adoption records, business documents, notarized powers of attorney, and academic transcripts and diplomas.
