Early Voting for Municipal Primaries Begins September 2

(Hartford, Connecticut)In towns having local primaries to determine who will be on the ballot in November, in-person early voting began today — Tuesday, September 2 — and continues through Sunday, September 7. In each of the 21 towns holding primaries, only voters registered with the political party holding the primary are eligible to vote.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, September 9.

Voters can find information about their town’s early voting location, see sample ballots with who’s running, confirm their Primary Election Day polling place, check their voter registration, and learn how to accurately and legally submit an absentee ballot at MyVote.CT.gov.

“Elections and voting are everywhere in popular culture, from television shows like Ginny & Georgia to General Hospital. Yet in real life, turnout in local elections is typically low,” said Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas. “For the first time in a municipal election year, early voting gives everyone a flexible opportunity to participate. Choosing our local leaders shapes the schools, streets, and services we rely on every day. This primary, make a plan to vote, get out early, and let your community hear your voice.”

Early voting locations will be open from 10 am to 6 pm daily, with extended hours from 8 am to 8 pm today and Thursday, September 4. Every town hosting a primary has at least one designated early voting site — though thanks to a law recently passed by the General Assembly, New Britain and New Haven each have an additional site.

Under the law passed during the 2025 Session, any public college campus with more than 1,000 residential students must host an early voting site. This municipal primary, both Central Connecticut State University and Southern Connecticut State University will have dedicated early voting locations on campus, making it easier for both residents and students to cast their ballots.

On Primary Election Day, held Tuesday, September 9, polls will be open from 6 am to 8 pm. Voters who do not vote early or by absentee ballot can cast their ballot at their usual polling location.
