Connecticut Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas Highlights 2024 Election Successes at National Panel
(Hartford, CT) — Connecticut Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas joined Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson to share election administration successes during the “Sharing Your Success” panel, hosted by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
During the panel, Secretary Thomas highlighted the hard work of election workers, community groups and her team in addressing the challenges of the 2024 election.
“The 2024 election brought on various challenges, but we prevailed” said Secretary Thomas. “We’ve worked diligently to uphold the cornerstone of our democracy - the right to vote and ensuring elections are run with precision, integrity, and transparency.”
Highlights of Connecticut’s 2024 Election Success
- Streamlined Election Administration: Secretary Thomas bridged Connecticut’s decentralized system by fostering regular, two-way communication through monthly meeting, the creation of working groups, and modernizing outdated procedures.
- Successful Early Voting Rollout: Connecticut introduced early voting, supported by extensive training, open communication with registrars of voters, and real-time support for election officials.
- Poll Worker Recruitment: Over 3,300 poll worker applications were received, bolstered by partnerships with key organizations and the innovative Next Gen Elections college student program.
- Election Security Measures: Monthly security meetings and targeted training ensured the safety of voters, election workers, and the electoral process.
- Voter Education and Outreach: A multifaceted campaign, including multilingual materials, grassroots efforts, and active social media engagement, informed and empowered voters statewide.
“By investing in our people, processes, and partnerships, we proved that challenges can be opportunities for innovation,” Thomas concluded. “I am proud to share Connecticut’s success story and inspire others to build stronger election systems.”
