How CCVS Works
CCVS pulls student records from PSIS, enables districts to verify and correct them, collects documentation, and finalizes accurate cohort data for statewide reporting.
Cohort Definitions
A Connecticut cohort consists of students who first enter 9th grade in the same year. Students remain in that cohort for four years, even if they repeat grades or take longer to graduate. Students can be removed only if they transfer out with valid documentation or pass away. Everyone else remains in the cohort and is counted as either a graduate or a non-graduate.
Data Quality Tool
The Connecticut Cohort Verification System (CCVS) is a data quality and verification tool that identifies cohort errors, enforces documentation requirements, and ensures that all corrections align with the underlying PSIS data. CCVS supports districts by flagging incorrect exit codes, missing documentation, incorrect cohort years, duplicate records, and unmatched facility students, and by providing a structured workflow to correct errors in PSIS and submit required documentation. In other words, CCVS is a tool for performing the following functions:
- Detecting and displaying common errors - The most common CCVS errors include incorrect exit codes, missing documentation, incorrect cohort years, duplicate records, and unmatched facility students. Almost all these errors trace back to incorrect or incomplete PSIS data, which can be displayed in CCVS.
- Fixing CCVS errors almost always requires correcting the underlying PSIS data, uploading documentation when needed, and waiting for CCVS to refresh. CCVS cannot override PSIS—PSIS drives everything
- CCVS requires documentation whenever a district seeks to remove a student from the cohort, correct an exit code, verify a transfer, confirm a facility placement, or support an amendment. If no documentation is provided, the student remains in the cohort.
