Adult Education State Grants

Overview

Each local and regional board of education must establish and maintain a program of adult classes or must create a cooperating relationship with another district to provide adult education services to its residents. The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) provides funds to Adult Education Providers to partially offset the cost of providing services as mandated.

C.G.S. Chapter 164 Section 10-71: Each local or regional board of education or regional educational service center which has submitted an adult education proposal to the State Board of Education pursuant to section 10-71a shall, annually, be eligible to receive, within available appropriations, a state grant based on a percentage of eligible costs for adult education as defined in section 10-67.

All adult education providers must offer the mandated programs:

Adult Basic Education
English for Adults who wish to improve their skills
Citizenship preparation classes
At least one pathway to a high school diploma (Credit Diploma, GED or NEDP)

Adult education providers apply for funding on an annual basis as specified in 10-71: on April 15 of the current year for the following fiscal year.
