Registration and Testing

All GED^® test-takers in Connecticut must do the following:

• Create an account on www.GED.com
  • For more information on requesting testing accommodations, please visit the accommodations page
• Take the GED^® Ready Practice test. There are four practice tests, one for each subject area, and they can be found under the Study tab in your account. GED^® Ready scores must be in the green, “Likely to Pass” range to schedule the corresponding subject test.
• Contact the local adult education provider to complete your registration for in-person testing
• Before registering, please review eligibility information

All test-takers who are 21 years of age and older and a non-veteran must pay a $13 registration fee to take the GED^® test. This fee includes the cost of the diploma. Only veterans and test-takers under the age of 21 are exempt from this fee. Once the in-person registration has been completed at the local adult education provider, schedule the GED^® test through the account on GED.com. It may take between 24 and 72 hours to complete registration processing.

What you need to know the Day of the Test

You need to check into the testing center at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled GED^® test appointment. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, you may not be admitted.

You will receive a 10-minute scheduled break between each module. Unscheduled breaks are not allowed, and your results may be deemed invalid (you would have to retake the test).

Connecticut requires you to be a resident of the state to test. You must bring one of the following valid forms of Connecticut identification with you on the day of testing or you will not be eligible to test:

• Driver's Permit
• Driver's License
• Connecticut Identification Card
• Passport

The identification must include your legal name, date of birth, photograph, and signature. 

You will be given an erasable note board and access to an on-screen calculator for certain subjects. Cell phones are strictly forbidden in the testing room. If you are found with a cell phone during testing, you will be escorted out, and your test will not be scored.

Other personal items (such as handbags, backpacks, wallets, keys, etc.) are not allowed in the testing room. Storage is available but limited.

Next Steps After Completing GED^® Testing

When you have successfully completed and passed all four test modules, a Connecticut State High School Diploma and GED^® transcript will automatically be mailed to your home address within 4–6 weeks. There is no additional paperwork required to receive the diploma and transcript. Please note, Connecticut does not issue duplicate diplomas. Please do not lose, destroy, or mutilate the one you receive, since it will be your only copy.
