William Murray

For more than two decades, Murray has represented educators on the Connecticut Investment Advisory Council (IAC), helping to guide state investment policies. During his tenure, he has served on multiple IAC committees, including education, retention, and talent recruitment, and he has chaired the Asset Allocation Committee.
Murray also has a long record of volunteer leadership. He is the CEA-Retired Advisory Board liaison to the Alliance for Retired Americans, and he serves on the Legislative and Resolutions Committee of the National Council on Teacher Retirement. He has also served several terms on the Connecticut Teachers’ Retirement Board, including one term as vice chair, and is the past president and vice president of CEA-Retired. For 12 years he served on CEA’s Board of Directors. Before retiring, Murray taught special education at Danbury High School, coached boys’ and girls’ track, and advised the Key Club. He also served as the Danbury local union president and the North Haven Lions Club president, where he also chaired the club’s High School Scholarship Committee. Each summer, he worked for the State of Connecticut as a recreation supervisor for residents with disabilities.
Murray earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and sixth-year degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and continued his education with additional graduate coursework at the University of California, Berkeley, and San José State University. He lives in Danbury with his wife, Sharon, and enjoys traveling and taking long motorcycle trips.
