Governor Lamont: Lehman’s Role and Experience Will Allow a Comprehensive Look at Economic Development

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today released the following statement following the confirmation in the State Senate of David Lehman as the commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, in addition to his role as the administration’s senior economic advisor:

“I applaud the State Senate’s bipartisan support and confirmation of my administration’s nominee, David Lehman, as the commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development. Today’s vote was a critical step towards our aggressive commitment to growing Connecticut’s economy – through strategic policies and programs in support of all facets of our diverse economy. Since nominating David for this role, he has hit the ground running – connecting with over thirty of our state’s business leaders, touring companies in nearly a dozen communities across the state, meeting with all regional chambers of commerce, and sitting down with numerous legislators. I know his commitment to the job and our state will serve Connecticut well. I am grateful that someone of David’s caliber was willing to roll up his sleeves in the interest of public service to our state and look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC) co-chairs Indra Nooyi and Jim Smith also released the following statement commending his confirmation:

“David’s confirmation sends a strong message to businesses large and small, to start-ups, and to entrepreneurs who want to make our state their home: This is a new day, there is new leadership, and we look forward to working with you to make Connecticut a more business-friendly state for your company. David has already been visiting local communities and companies of all sizes to immerse himself in the fabric of our cities and towns, and we know that this important on-the-ground outreach will continue. We’re excited to be working side-by-side with the board at CERC, and in public-private partnership with DECD, Commissioner Lehman, and directly with Governor Lamont. We look forward to leveraging our private sector experience to build on Connecticut’s natural strengths, focusing intently on attracting businesses to our great state, and aggressively marketing it as a place with an ideal location, educated workforce, a great quality of life, and a supportive state government.”
