Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Receives More Than $30 Million to Support Local Clean Water Projects
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that the State of Connecticut has been awarded over $30 million in Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund grants by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to help finance community-based water infrastructure projects, including for public drinking water systems and municipal sewage plants.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding the commitment letter that CVS Health Corporation delivered today to the Connecticut Insurance Department, wherein the company pledged to keep Aetna’s headquarters in Hartford for at least the next ten years, maintain its current staffing levels in the state for at least the next four years, and honor existing philanthropic agreements.

Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Funding to Provide Mental Health Services for Children and Families Who Evacuated Homes Due to Hurricane Maria
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is receiving a $750,000 federal grant to provide mental health support to children and their families who were evacuated from their homes and are living in Connecticut as a result of Hurricane Maria.

Gov. Malloy Announces New State Law Banning Bump Stocks Is Now in Effect
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that a new state law he signed (Public Act 18-29) that bans the sale, purchase, possession, and manufacturing of bump stocks and other enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons has taken effect today. Connecticut now joins just a handful of states the ban the devices – a situation that Governor Malloy said needs to be addressed on a national basis by Congress.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Initiative to Attract Diverse and Talented People to Become Teachers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut State Department of Education (SDE) has launched TEACH Connecticut, a comprehensive approach toward attracting diverse and talented people into the teaching profession. By partnering with TEACH.org, the state will be better able to recruit and attract teachers or teacher candidates through advertising, a Connecticut dedicated website (connecticut.teach.org), and exciting in-person events.

Gov. Malloy Announces $2.1 Million Federal Grant to Improve Labor Force Services Returning to Work After an Illness or Injury
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) has been awarded a $2.1 million federal grant as part of the Retaining Employment and Talent After Injury/Illness Network (RETAIN) initiative, designed to improve the retention of workers after an illness or injury. The grant, which as a focus on providing more proactive stay-at-work/return-to-work (SAW/RTW) services, will test the impact of early intervention on SAW/RTW outcomes.

Malloy today announced the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) is now accepting applications from municipalities and economic development agencies for its 12th round of competitive grant funding as part of the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program. The initiative provides opportunities to investigate, clean up, and revitalize blighted properties that have fallen into disrepair and puts them back into productive use in ways that benefit local economies.

Gov. Malloy Receives Report Showing Crime in Connecticut Continuing Downward Trend so Far This Year
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today said that a report released by the state’s criminal justice policy and planning office and underscored by data released this morning from the FBI indicates continued, positive trends in the administration’s efforts to reduce crime in Connecticut. Since the Governor took office in 2011, statistics show that the overall crime in the state has declined 19 percent, including a 19 percent decline in violent crimes.

Gov. Malloy Announces $12.4M in State Grants to Help Towns Throughout Connecticut Improve Safety and Accessibility for Pedestrians and Bicyclists

Gov. Malloy, State and Local Officials Break Ground on the Future Site of Hartford’s Parkville Market
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James Redeker, developer Carlos Mouta, and other state and local officials for a ceremonial ground breaking at the future site of Parkville Market, located at 1400 Park Street in Hartford in the historic Parkville neighborhood. The 20,000-square-foot, two-story food market is expected to bring around 150 new jobs to the area.
