Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Protecting LGBTQ Youth from the Destructive and Discredited Practice of Conversion Therapy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy this evening signed into law legislation that will protect LGBTQ youth in the state from the destructive and discredited practice of conversion therapy. The so-called treatment, which seeks to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, has been discredited by nearly every credible medical and psychiatric group in the country and oftentimes includes destructive practices that are harmful to children, such as electric shock therapy.

Gov. Malloy Announces Pharmaceutical Company Opening Manufacturing Facility in Windsor That Will Create 361 New Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that SCA Pharmaceuticals, an Arkansas-based company, has decided to establish a presence in Connecticut through the creation of a new 90,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Windsor, where the company has plans to create approximately 361 new jobs over the next four years. SCA manufactures injectable pharmaceuticals in ready-to-administer dosages for use at hospitals and healthcare facilities. The company helps healthcare facilities increase efficiencies and reduce costs while improving patient care.

Gov. Malloy Announces $10.7 Million to Support the Development of Affordable Housing in Six Connecticut Communities
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein, and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) Executive Director Karl Kilduff today announced that nearly $10.7 million in funding has been approved by the CHFA Board of Directors to support the development of seven affordable housing projects in six Connecticut communities. Funding comes through federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) program, which is administered by CHFA.

Gov. Malloy Encourages Residents and Visitors to Support Connecticut Vineyards, Participate in Farm Winery Passport Program
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is encouraging Connecticut residents and visitors alike to discover one of the many vineyards located throughout the state by participating in the Passport to Connecticut Farm Wineries program – the state’s annual promotion offering incentives to visitors who support the local businesses. Connecticut has 37 farm wineries that grow their own grapes, including the addition of three new wineries in Granby, Lyme, and Waterford that recently opened and joined the Passport program for the first time this year.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is re-appointing Elin Swanson Katz of West Hartford to serve another five-year term as Consumer Counsel for the State of Connecticut. The Consumer Counsel is responsible for advocating on behalf of Connecticut consumers on issues relating to electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, and water.

Gov. Malloy Nominates Judges Nina Elgo and Maria Araujo Kahn to Serve on the Appellate Court
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is nominating the Honorable Nina F. Elgo of West Hartford and the Honorable Maria Araujo Kahn of Cheshire to serve as judges on the Connecticut Appellate Court. Should the legislature act favorably on both nominations, this will become the first time in state history that the Appellate Court has been represented by a majority of female judges.

Gov. Malloy Announces Six-Year High School Graduation Rate Reaches Historic High, Graduation Gaps Closing
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Department of Education (SDE) Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell today announced that the six-year high school graduation rate increased over four consecutive years, reaching an all-time high of 90.5 percent for the 2013-14 cohort. The release of the data comes on the heels of the announcement last month that the state reached an all-time high four-year graduation rate in 2016 of 87.4 percent – significantly higher than the national average of 83.2 percent.

Gov. Malloy Receives Presidential Appointment to Serve as Co-Chair of the Council of Governors
Governor Dannel P. Malloy has been re-appointed by President Donald Trump to serve a two-year term as co-chair of the Council of Governors, a bipartisan group of ten governors responsible for addressing matters of national security, homeland defense, synchronization and integration of state and federal military activities in the United States, and matters of mutual interest pertaining to the National Guard.
