Advocacy Action Hub

A Centralized Platform for Resident-Led Advocacy in Connecticut

Infographic titled “How Resident Voice Becomes Policy Change.” The graphic shows a five step process moving from Nursing Home Residents to Resident Councils, to the Resident Advocacy Action Hub, to the Statewide Coalition of Presidents of Resident Councils, and finally to Legislative and Policy Change. Each stage includes brief examples such as sharing concerns, completing surveys, identifying priorities, reviewing input, proposing legislation, and achieving resident priorities. Arrows connect each step, illustrating how resident input leads to unified advocacy and policy impact for Connecticut residents.

Welcome to the Connecticut Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program’s Resident Advocacy Action Hub. This page serves as a centralized location where residents, resident councils, and stakeholders can learn about advocacy priorities, share feedback, support initiatives, and propose new issues for statewide consideration.

The purpose of this Action Hub is to strengthen resident voice across Connecticut by providing a clear and accessible pathway for participation in legislative and policy discussions that affect individuals living in nursing homes, residential care homes, and assisted living communities.

Resident-Led Advocacy: Residents Working Together

Resident advocacy is strongest when residents come together as a group. Resident Councils and the Statewide Coalition of Presidents of Resident Councils help residents identify shared concerns, discuss possible solutions, and bring resident priorities forward for statewide advocacy.

This Action Hub is not only a place to complete surveys or sign petitions. It is also a way for residents to stay connected, participate in resident-led discussions, and help shape the issues that move forward for broader advocacy.

Residents and Resident Council leaders are encouraged to take action by:

  • Sharing concerns, ideas, and experiences from their own nursing home or short-term rehab stay
  • Bringing resident priorities from local Resident Council meetings to statewide discussions
  • Joining monthly Strengthening Resident Council meetings hosted by the Statewide Coalition of Presidents of Resident Councils
  • Considering involvement with the Executive Board of the Statewide Coalition of Presidents of Resident Councils
  • Helping other residents understand that their voices can influence policy and improve quality of life
