The Tool uses insurance claims data from the state’s All Payer Claims Database (APCD) to estimate insurance payments and individuals’ out-of-pocket payments for common services, drugs, and devices.
Given significant variation in how insurance plans cover medical services, estimates shown in the Tool might differ from your final billed charges. Accordingly, you should always check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage and medical provider about costs prior to receiving non-emergency healthcare services.
The APCD is a program that receives, stores, and analyzes health insurance claims data from many of the insurance payers that insure CT residents. Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 19a-755a authorizes the Office of Health Strategy to administer the program. OHS uses the APCD to make available information on safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, transparency, access, and efficiency at all levels of health care and delivery, to improve the health of Connecticut residents.
