Who Must Complete a Registration Application for The Motor Carrier Road Tax
Each motor carrier operating or causing to be operated any qualified motor vehicle on any highway in this state, solely and exclusively in intrastate commerce shall register each such vehicle with the Commissioner of Revenue Services.
A qualified motor vehicle is a motor vehicle used, designed, or maintained for transportation of persons or property and:
- Has 2 axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered gross vehicle weight exceeding 26,000 pounds
- Has 3 or more axles regardless of weight; or
- Is used in combination and the combined gross vehicle weight or registered gross vehicle weight exceeds 26,000 pounds or 11,797 kilograms.
The decals are subject to a fee of $10 per vehicle. Decals are not transferable from vehicle to vehicle or from company to company.
Your application for Motor Carrier decals is calendar year specific and will expire December 31 of each calendar year.
On the registration of any such vehicle, the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) shall provide identification markers for such vehicle to be affixed to the lower rear portion of the exterior side of the vehicle's doors. Such marker shall remain the property of the state and may be recalled for any violation.
