New Secure Email Service

Changes Impacting Tumbleweed Users

Secure Mail Upgrade to MailGate

Impact: All Users of Secure Email (Tumbleweed)

The State of Connecticut Department of Administrative Services/Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technology (DAS/BEST) provides the State’s agencies with the ability to send electronic email securely, using the Enterprise Secure Mail Service. Effective, September 26, 2017, the State of Connecticut upgraded the current secure mail services known as Tumbleweed. The new name will be MailGate solution. There will be noticeable changes once the new MailGate is implemented.

Impact:
  • As of September 26, 2017, the recipients of DRS secure email will be prompted to create a new MailGate user account (the instructions are attached). The previous Tumbleweed accounts will no longer be used.
  • The new MailGate password requirements requires that the password must be a minimum of eight (8) characters, must contain at least one number and one special character, and will expire after thirty (30) days.
  • There will now be a MailGate self-service password reset option.
  • The MailGate account will be locked after ten (10) failed login attempts. If a MailGate account is locked, the user has to contact the DAS/BEST at 860-622-2300, option 9, to request that the account be unlocked.
  • You should continue to follow the link in the email to receive your secure mail. Do not use old bookmarks previously stored on your computer.
  • The new MailGate URL is https://securemail.ct.gov. Please update your web-based bookmarks or favorites.
  • Secure mail packages are retained on the secure mail server for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days, at which time the packages are deleted.
