    • What is myCTREC?
      Answer: myCTREC is the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) new, mobile‑friendly online portal for Submitters and Town Clerks to manage their Real Estate Conveyance taxes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. myCTREC provides faster, easier, and more accurate results than paper processing methods.
    • What are the benefits of myCTREC?
      Answer:

      myCTREC is the most accurate way to file Form OP-236, Connecticut Real Estate Conveyance Tax Return. Errors are reduced because the system does the calculations for you. It also ensures all required information is included on your return before it is submitted.

      You will receive a confirmation number that will ensure the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services received your submission. You can view your return and payment history at any time. Your return will be available for the Town Clerk to review and approve.

    • Is myCTREC a secure website?
      Answer:

      Yes, myCTREC was designed using up-to-date security technology and utilizes SHA 512 encryption to ensure the privacy of your transactions. Additionally, the logon and user authentication areas are designed to ensure that users can access their tax filing information in a secure environment.

    • How does myCTREC keep my information safe?
      Answer:

      myCTREC keeps your information safe and your privacy secure by using multiple security layers within the application. myCTREC will also log you out automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity.

    • Which Web browsers can I use to access myCTREC?
      Answer:

    • Can I use my E-REC credentials to log in to myCTREC?
      Answer:

      No. You must create a myCTREC username and password. E-REC is no longer in use. All Real Estate Conveyance Tax Returns must be filed in myCTREC.

    • Can I use myconneCT credentials to log in to myCTREC?
      Answer:

      No. You must create a myCTREC username and password. myconneCT is used to file income tax and many other tax returns. All Real Estate Conveyance Tax Returns must be filed in myCTREC.

    • I was locked out of myCTREC, how do I unlock the account?
      Answer:

      The account will automatically unlock after 1 hour, OR you may call DRS at 860-297-4973 to unlock the account.

    • I’m trying to create a profile on myCTREC, why won’t it accept my username?
      Answer: Usernames are limited to one username per person or profile. You will not be able to use the same username that is already being used for another profile. However, the same email address is allowed for multiple profiles.
    • My user ID/password isn't working, how do I reset the account?
      Answer:

      You can use the link on myCTREC that says Forgot Username or Password? to reset your password, OR you may call DRS and an examiner can send an email to reset the password.

      Important Note for Town Clerks: myCTREC profiles for Town Clerks must be approved by DRS before you can log in to myCTREC.

    • What Access Types are available in myCTREC?
      Answer:

      There are two access types you can request when you create your username:

      • Submitters: Submitters can file Form OP-236, Real Estate Conveyance Tax Return, for Connecticut real estate conveyance. You will be able to electronically submit form OP-236 and any applicable payment electronically to the associated Town Clerk.
      • Town Clerk: Participation allows access for the Town Clerk to review and approve electronically filed Connecticut Real Estate Conveyance Tax Returns, Form OP-236, submitted through the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) myCTREC portal for your municipality.
    • What are the rules for creating a password on myCTREC?
      Answer:

      Your password must adhere to the following rules:

      • 8 characters minimum
      • Include both letters and numbers
      • Include both upper case and lower case letters
      • Include at least 1 special character
      • Cannot be the same as the username
    • What if I don't have an email address?
      Answer: An e-mail address is required to set up a username in myCTREC. If you do not have a personal e-mail address, you can sign up for a free account with websites such as Google, Hotmail, and Yahoo.
    • What if I forget my password?
      Answer:
      1. Click the Forgot Username or Password? hyperlink on the myCTREC home page.
      2. Enter your username.
      3. Click the Submit button.
        • Note: An email will be sent to the email address provided when you set up your logon.
      4. Check your inbox for an email. If you did not receive the email check your Junk e-mail folder.
      5. Click the hyperlink in the email and enter the answer to your secret question to continue the password reset process.
      6. Click the Next button.
      7. Type your new password in the New Password field.
      8. Type your new password in the Confirm Password field.
      9. Click the Submit button.
      10. Click the Ok button.
      11. Login with your username and new password.
    • What if I forget my Username?
      Answer:

      If you forget your username:

      1. Click the Forgot Username or Password? hyperlink on the myCTREC home page.
      2. Click the Forgot your username? hyperlink.
      3. Enter your email address and click Submit.

        Note: An email will be sent to the email address you provided when you created your username.

      4. Check your inbox for an email with your username. If you did not receive the email check your Junk e-mail folder.
      5. Login with your username and password
    • Can a business have multiple persons with usernames in myCTREC?
      Answer: Yes. Each authorized person should follow the steps required to create their own username for myCTREC.
  • General
    • What is the Action Center?
      Answer: The Action Center is a single location in myCTREC where you can see a list of items that require attention. For example, notification that a return has been approved or rejected will be available from the Action Center.
    • What is a submission?
      Answer:

      Any tax return with or without payment that you submit to DRS from myCTREC is referred to as a submission.

    • How do I view a submission in myCTREC?
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the Submissions group and click the Find Submissions hyperlink. Depending on your access (Town Clerk or Submitter), you may be able to view Draft, Pending, Processed, or Rejected submissions.
      3. Click the hyperlink for the submission you wish to view.
    • How do I send a secure message?
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the Correspondence group and click the Send Message hyperlink.
      3. Select the message area (e.g. Account, Payment/Billing) and category.
      4. Enter the subject and message. You can also add attachments to your message.
      5. Once you are satisfied with your message, click Submit.
    • How do I update my profile information?
      Answer:

      In myconneCT, you can change your Legal name and Doing Business As (DBA) name.

      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Click the Manage My Profile information hyperlink.
      3. From the Profile tab, locate the information you wish to update.
      4. Click the applicable hyperlink (e.g., Update Name, Change Email, Edit Phone Number, etc.).
      5. Enter the updated information.
      6. Click OK.
  • Submitters
    • Can I file a return electronically if I don't have a myCTREC account?
      Answer:

      No. In order to file returns online you must create a myCTREC username and log in to myCTREC.

    • How do I see payments I have made in myCTREC
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the Submissions group and click the Find a Submission hyperlink.
        1. Payments associated with returns that have not yet been reviewed will be displayed in the Pending tab.
        2. Payments associated with returns that have been approved and Processed will be available from the Processed tab.
        3. Payments associated with returns that have been rejected and must be resubmitted can be seen from the Rejected tab.
      3. Select the applicable tab, then click the hyperlink in the Title column for the return you wish to view.
      4. View the return and skip to the Payment step of the return.
      • Note: If you wish to view the full details (line items) of a return previously filed through E-REC, you must view the return in the E-REC.
      • Note: Only payments submitted through myCTREC are viewable in myCTREC.
    • How do I file a return?
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the File OP-236 group and click the File OP-236 hyperlink.
      3. Enter the return details as specified during each step of the return.
        • Note: If there is tax due, you will be prompted to make a payment before submitting the return.
      4. Enter your payment details.
      5. Enter your electronic signature on the Declaration of Taxpayer(s) page.
      6. Click the Submit button.

      Confirmation Page: Once the return request is submitted, a Confirmation page is displayed. From the Confirmation page, you can click the Printable View button to print a myCTREC Taxpayer Copy of your return. This receipt is for your records only. Do not mail a copy of the return to the agency. Doing so can result in duplicate filings and delayed processing. You may need to provide the confirmation number to the town clerk if checking on the status of the town clerk approval.

      Town Clerk Approval: Your return and payment will not be processed by DRS until it has been approved by the Town Clerk. If your Real Estate Conveyance return has not been reviewed after 45 days, you will receive a reminder notification that it must be reviewed. At that time, please contact the Town Clerk responsible for reviewing the return. Returns will expire and must be resubmitted if they are not reviewed after 60 days.

    • Can I start a return and finish it later?
      Answer:

      Yes. You can begin filling out a return and complete it later. If you have not submitted the saved return after 15 days you will receive a warning that you have started and not completed a return. After 30 days, the incomplete return will be deleted and you will need to start over when filing your return.

      To save your return:

      1. Click the Save Draft button to save your changes. (This requires you to finish your changes at a later time and submit the changes in order for the return to be posted.)
      2. Click Finish Later.

      To retrieve your return:

      1. Click the Find a Submission hyperlink in the Submissions group. Select the hyperlink for the request under the Title column.
      2. Locate the return and click the hyperlink in the Title column.
        1. Click the Continue Editing hyperlink to make updates to the return.
        2. Click the Delete Submission hyperlink to delete the return.
      3. If you have chosen to continue editing the return, enter the details of the return, submit the return. If there is tax due, select the appropriate payment option.

      Confirmation Page: Once the return request is submitted, a Confirmation page is displayed. From the Confirmation page, you can click the Printable View button to print a myCTREC Taxpayer Copy of your return. This receipt is for your records only. Do not mail a copy of the return to the agency. Doing so can result in duplicate filings and delayed processing. You may need to provide the confirmation number to the town clerk if checking on the status of the town clerk approval.

      Town Clerk Approval: Your return and payment will not be processed by DRS until it has been approved by the Town Clerk. If your Real Estate Conveyance return has not been reviewed after 45 days, you will receive a reminder notification that it must be reviewed.     • How do I view previously filed returns?
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the Submissions group and click the Find a Submission hyperlink.
        1. Returns that have not yet been reviewed will be displayed in the Pending tab.
        2. Returns that have been approved and Processed will be available from the Processed tab.
        3. Returns that have been rejected and must be resubmitted can be seen from the Rejected tab.
      3. Select the applicable tab, then click the hyperlink in the Title column for the return you wish to view.
      4. View the return.
      • Note: If you wish to view the full details (line items) of a return previously filed through E-REC, you must view the return in the E-REC.

      If you wish to print a copy of your return, complete the following steps:

      1. Click the Print hyperlink. A summary of the return will open in a new tab in your browser.
      2. Click the printer icon in the top right corner of your screen to print the image.

       

  • Town Clerks
    • I have created myCTREC username and password. Why can’t I log in?
      Answer:

      myCTREC profiles for Town Clerks must be reviewed and approved by DRS before you can log in to myCTREC. You will receive an email notification from DRS once your request for a myCTREC account has been approved or denied.

    • How do I approve a Form OP-236, Real Estate Conveyance Tax Return?
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the Review Submitted OP-236 group and click the Review OP-236 Returns hyperlink.
      3. All submitted returns are submitted at the bottom of the page.
      4. You can use the Search for OP-236 Returns section to narrow down the returns that are displayed in the Returns section of the page.
        • Note: When speaking with a submitter, request the Confirmation Number they received when they submitted the return. Use this to search for their return.
      5. Once you locate the return, click the Review Return hyperlink.
      6. Review all information provided by the Submitter.
      7. Enter the Land Record Volume, Date Recorded, and Land Record Page information.
      8. Click the Approve button.
      9. Click Submit.

      Confirmation Page: Once the return is submitted, a Confirmation page is displayed. From the Confirmation page, you can click the Printable View button to print a myCTREC Town Clerk Copy of your return. This receipt is for your records only. Do not mail a copy of the return to the agency. Doing so can result in duplicate filings and delayed processing. The Town Clerk confirmation number is a different number than the confirmation number provided to the submitter.

      Town Clerk Approval: Once you have approved the return, DRS can process the return and payment. If a return remains in the Pending Submission status for 45 days, the Submitter will receive a reminder notification that it must be reviewed. At that time, they will be prompted to contact you to review the return. Returns will expire and must be resubmitted if they are not reviewed after 60 days.

    • How do I reject a Form OP-236, Real Estate Conveyance Tax Return?
      Answer:
      1. Log in to myCTREC.
      2. Locate the Review Submitted OP-236 group and click the Review OP-236 Returns hyperlink.
      3. All submitted returns are submitted at the bottom of the page.
      4. You can use the Search for OP-236 Returns section to narrow down the returns that are displayed in the Returns section of the page.
        • Note: When speaking with a submitter, request the Confirmation Number they received when they submitted the return. Use this to search for their return.
      5. Once you locate the return, click the Review Return hyperlink.
      6. Review all information provided by the Submitter.
      7. Click the Reject button.
      8. Enter a Rejection Reason. When returns are rejected, submitters will receive a notification from myCTREC, and this rejection reason will be included.
      9. Click Submit.

      Note: When Returns are rejected the Submitter cannot edit the existing Form OP-236. They must submit a new Form OP-236.
