Hiring a Tax Preparer

NOTE TO PREPARERS/FACILITATORS – AFSP REQUIREMENT

Beginning January 1, 2022, non-exempt tax preparers and facilitators must complete the IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) and receive an "AFSP – Record of Completion" in order to apply for or renew a permit. The program must be completed for the year in which the permit is applied for or renewed. For example, in order to renew your permit expiring in 2022, you must complete the 2022 AFSP by December 31, 2021. Information on the IRS Annual Filing Season Program is available here: https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/annual-filing-season-program

To protect you, the Taxpayer, the Department of Revenue Services has imposed new requirements on tax preparers and facilitators in Connecticut.

If you choose to hire a tax preparer, do your research to find one you feel is trustworthy, compliant with all tax laws, answers your questions and is a good fit for you.
