Commissioner Dr. Manisha Juthani's Labor Day employee message

Aug. 30, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

As the Labor Day holiday approaches, I want to take this opportunity to share my appreciation for your steadfast commitment to public health and the residents of Connecticut.

Labor Day was first observed in New York City in 1882 and was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day honors the contributions of workers in every field to maintain our country’s strength and prosperity, and that undoubtedly includes the crucial work you all do to protect the public’s health. Each of you play an invaluable role in fostering the well-being and resiliency of our communities, and your effort does not go unnoticed.

While a wonderful time to relax and recharge with loved ones, Labor Day is also a great opportunity to reflect on the importance of your own well-being and work-life balance. With summer winding down and many of us jumping headfirst back into the school year, balancing work and home life can be difficult.  Between family, work, and personal responsibilities, stress can compound over time leading to poor sleep, weight gain, and other health issues. Taking small moments to recharge can actually help prevent the accumulation of stressors. It can be easier said than done, but I encourage you to set aside some time this weekend to rest, rejuvenate, and spend quality time with those who “fill your happiness cup.”

As we begin to see signs of autumn on the horizon, and the shorter days loom ahead, I look forward to our continued work together serving the residents of Connecticut. Once again, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and resilience in the face of adversity. Your commitment encapsulates the spirit of Labor Day, and we are incredibly grateful to have you as part of our team.

Best wishes to you and your family for a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Commissioner Juthani
