TRAC-Drawbridge Competition 2006-2007 Is Here!!!!

Hurry !!! Time is Running Out!!!

The Drawbridge competition is designed to be an extended activity created from the TRAC PAC 2 Bridge Builder module. This event is designed to allow students the opportunity to develop a drawbridge that will be tested for mechanics and for strength-to-weight ratio. Student teams will be competing against other TRAC student teams from across the country. Interested teams should fill out the attached application and submit it prior to the deadline of October 15, 2006.

TRAC Headquarters will send a packet and kit to each team to begin their project. The kit will include the following:

?? Lego Gears

?? Popsicle Sticks

?? Balsa Wood

?? Dowel Rods

?? Wood Glue

?? String

?? Power Draft CAD Software by Bentley Software, Inc.

After completing the project, each team is required to submit a proposal to TRAC Headquarters.  Do not send the bridge itself. The proposal must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2007. All entries become the property of ASHTO TRAC and will not be returned. From those proposals entered, three finalists from the middle school grade level and three finalists from the high school grade level will be chosen to attend the national competition at the AASHTO Spring meeting in May in Arizona to compete in their grade level using the drawbridge that was designed in the proposal. At the national level, teams will present a Power Point presentation (no longer than 10 minuets or points will be deducted) and compete with teams from other regions to determine the winning drawbridge.
