The CTDOT has a number of initiatives to bring highway monitoring cameras to the Waterbury area and our web site. Each initiative has different levels of monitoring capabilities, locations and time tables.
1. Initiative 1 has six cameras to be installed on I-84 and Route 8. Two of the six locations will be outside the Waterbury area to assist motorists entering into the Waterbury area. This initiative is expected to be in operation early next year and is part of a motorists information system including electronic roadside signs and AM radio. The system is an interim measure until other initiatives are designed and funded. All of the locations will be added to the web site when the connections are made.
2. Initiative 2 has twenty-three permanent cameras locations and three electronic roadside signs to be addedon I-84 and Route 8 interchange. The initiative is in design. The expected design completion is Fall of 2005. The construction completion is expected to be middle to end of 2007. The initiative is dependent on funding availability.
3. Initiative 3 is part of the I-84 reconstruction from Marion Rd in Southington to Hamilton Rd. in Waterbury. The initiative has sixteen permanent highway monitoring cameras and three electronic roadside signs to be installed in the last reconstruction initiative. The last I-84 reconstruction initiative is in design. The expected design completion is Spring of 2007. The construction completion is expected to be middle to end of 2011. The initiative is dependent on funding availability.
