Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding the Replacement of Bridge Carrying Long Hill Road over Hop River in Andover

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 04582 carrying Long Hill Road over Hop River in the Andover, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.  For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOTAndover1-108.

“This project will replace the 90-year-old bridge with a longer single-span structure, improving safety and extending the lifespan of the bridge,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Marc Byrnes. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

The purpose of the project is to replace the Long Hill Road Bridge over Hop River with a longer single-span bridge. The concrete deck is in poor condition, and deterioration of the remainder of the bridge components is advancing to a similar poor condition state.  The structure is also scour critical, and its waterway capacity is in need of improvement.

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not envisioned.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way (if required), and approval of permit(s).  The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $4.1 million.  This project is anticipated to be undertaken with a minimum 80% federal funds and up to 20% of state matching funds.
