Shore Line East Weekend and Weekday Schedule Adjustments to Accommodate Amtrak’s Penn Station Access Project and Switch Replacement Project

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting riders that temporary weekday and weekend train schedule adjustments will be in effective March 6, 2023 through April 2, 2023 on the Shore Line East (SLE). This work is necessary to accommodate trackwork on Amtrak’s Hell Gate Line in New York City to support the Penn Station Access (PSA) project and a switch replacement project in Old Saybrook, Conn. The PSA project will enable Metro-North trains to use the Hell Gate Line to connect to the westside of Manhattan and into Penn Station. This will expand traveling options for Connecticut passengers.

The projects will require train time adjustments of up to 61 minutes. As a result, some connecting trains may have changed. These schedule changes will not impact any station platform boarding assignments.

SLE trains with significant schedule adjustments of more than 15 minutes include:

Weekday

  • SLE 1659 departing New London Station at 10:00 a.m., 22 minutes later.
  • SLE 1606 departing New Haven Station at 8:43 a.m., 28 minutes later.
  • SLE 1610 departing New Haven Station at 10:45 a.m., 26 minutes later.

 Weekend

  • SLE 3645 departing New London Station at 2:19 p.m., 26 minutes later.
  • SLE 3610 departing New Haven Station at 11:08 a.m., 39 minutes later.
  • SLE 3618 departing New Haven Union Station at 1:36 p.m., 61 minutes later.
  • SLE 3638 departing New Haven Union Station at 5:50 p.m., 20 minutes later.

Several other SLE trains may depart up to 15 minutes earlier or later than the current schedule.

Passengers can find the updated schedule here and are encouraged to visit ShoreLineEast.com for the latest service information. Riders can sign up for alerts sent directly to their phone or email at shorelineeast.com/service-alerts

SLE passengers are encouraged to pre-purchase their rail tickets before boarding. CTrail passengers may purchase their rail tickets using the CTrail eTix mobile ticketing app at CTrail ticket vending machines in New Haven, or Amtrak ticket windows in New Haven, Old Saybrook, and New London (credit and debit cards only).

While passengers are no longer required to wear masks on board trains or in stations, masks are welcome and remain an important preventive measure against COVID-19. Anyone needing or choosing to wear one is encouraged to do so.
