Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding Relocating the Railroad Station in Naugatuck

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the relocation of the railroad station in Naugatuck on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.

The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments and ask questions regarding the proposed project. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit, http://portal.ct.gov/DOTNaugatuck0304-0029.

“The relocation of Naugatuck Station has been widely anticipated and will complement the Borough’s downtown economic development plans,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Engineer Deborah Silva. “We encourage the community to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team.”

The project’s aim is to replace the station allowing the New Haven Line and Waterbury Branch Line to improve accessibility for passengers, as well as supply parking to serve additional rail commuters in the region. The proposed station will permit single-side ADA compatible passenger boarding of Metro-North trains operating on CTDOT’s Waterbury Branch Line.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project which includes property currently owned by the borough of Naugatuck.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2025 based on the acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $26 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent (80%) federal funds and 20 percent (20%) state funds.
