Public Invited to Meeting Regarding Installation of Centerline Rumble Strips on Route 67 (Southbury Road) in Roxbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the installation of centerline rumble strips (CLRS) on Route 67 (Southbury Road) in Roxbury on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.

The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOT2024CLRS-Roxbury

Centerline rumble strips are a proven low-cost safety countermeasure that alerts drivers when they drift out of a lane, reducing head-on collisions and roadway departure crashes,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Balazs Szoke. We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team.

The project aims to reduce the number of roadway departures and head on crashes on state roads by systemically installing centerline rumble strips (CLRS) as roads are resurfaced. Route 67 (Southbury Road) is receiving a pavement preservation treatment, and the planned CLRS extents are from Route 317 (Church Street) south into Southbury.

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024. The estimated construction cost for rumble strips in the Roxbury section of Route 67 is approximately $15,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 100% state funds at no cost to the town.
