CTDOT Developing Plans to Improve Drainage System on Route 334 in Ansonia

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Office of Engineering is developing plans to improve a state drainage system on Route 334 in Ansonia.

The project addresses poor conditions at the drainage outlet located at 176 Franklin Street (Route 334). The outlet carries stormwater from the drainage system on Wakelee Avenue and Franklin Street. Significant erosion and destabilized soil conditions have been observed at the outlet, which have led to sinkholes and falling trees. The outlet pipe is undersized and has insufficient outlet protection to dissipate the high-water velocities.

This project will improve the safety and operation of Route 334 in Ansonia for drivers and surrounding properties,” said CTDOT Project Manager Joseph Arsenault. “CTDOT continues to identify and repair drainage systems across Connecticut to protect roads and waterways.”

The current schedule indicates that the design will be completed in the winter of 2025, with construction anticipated to start in the summer of 2025, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be funded with eighty percent (80%) federal funds and twenty percent (20%) state funds.

It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project's development. A public informational meeting will be conducted upon completing the preliminary design. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
