Bridge No. 00337 (Tomlinson Bridge), originally built in 2002 and, carries US. Route 1 and P&W Railroad over the Quinnipiac River in New Haven. The bridge consists of six steel multi-girder approach spans and one vertical lift truss span. The lift span is a through truss with towers on either side with counterweights which are used to raise and lower the lift span. There is a sidewalk on the south side of the bridge and a single railroad track (P&W) on the north side of the bridge.

The focus of the rehabilitation will be predominately on the operational issues regarding the electrical and mechanical systems that will require repair and upgrading of various systems. The elevator system will also be addressed for deficient operation issues. The gates and cameras will be upgraded. The towers and the superstructure require painting and the approach spans will be paved with a new bituminous overlay.

At a minimum, a general permit acquisition will be required from the Department of Environmental and Energy Protection (DEEP) for the proposed work will be required.

There are no Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2024 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permits.  The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $ 25.8 million dollars.
