Public Invited to Virtual Informational Meeting Regarding Removal of Carroll Road Bridge over Pachaug River in Griswold

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the Removal of Bridge No. 04671 carrying Carroll Road over Pachaug River in Griswold on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place on Zoom and registration is required. A Question and Answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation. The presentation will be recorded. For instructions on how to access the meeting, ways to provide comments, and how to ask questions, please visit http://portal.ct.gov/DOTGriswold0057-0121.

The Virtual Public Information Meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project.

The purpose of the project is to remove Bridge No. 04671. The Town has determined that the bridge is no longer warranted and therefore has requested the removal of the existing superstructure in its entirety. The existing abutments and pier are to remain in place. The east approach will be terminated at Sheldon Road and the existing private drive will be extended as necessary. On the west approach proposed parallel parking will be installed within the existing Right of Way and the roadway will be terminated after the private road access. Protective fencing will be installed at each end of the bridge after removal.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project. Temporary easements are anticipated on both sides of the roadway to accommodate the anticipated construction activities.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2025 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $520,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with eighty percent (80%) Federal funds and twenty percent (20%) State funds.
