Public Invited to First Virtual Public Information Meeting on Study for Improvements to I-95 in Eastern Connecticut

CTDOT hosts virtual engagement for I-95 Eastern CT Planning & Environmental Linkages Study, Branford to Rhode Island

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct its first public information meeting for the I-95 Eastern CT Planning & Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study virtually on Zoom, on November 15, 2022 at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Each session will include a presentation immediately followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. All materials shared during the virtual meeting can be found on the study website today. The public is encouraged to review and make comments through November 30, 2022.

The I-95 Eastern CT PEL Study is an early-planning effort to identify improvements that would reduce congestion and improve travel time along Interstate 95 (I-95) from Exit 53 in Branford to the Rhode Island state line.

The purpose of this first public information meeting is to provide an overview of the concerns in the corridor related to the growing traffic and increased drive times, explain the PEL Study process, and ask for the public’s feedback on the Draft Purpose and Need of future projects within the corridor.

The PEL Study is an integrated approach that considers environmental, community, and economic goals early in the planning process. The outcomes of the I-95 Eastern CT PEL Study will be designed to streamline CTDOT’s transportation project development and environmental review process for any resulting transportation improvement projects. CTDOT may adopt or incorporate planning products from this PEL Study into a federal or state environmental review process, pursuant to Title 23 U.S.C. § 168(d)(4). The project is formally identified as State Project No. DOT 172-467.

The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom and will also be recorded. Two meeting times will be offered at 12 p.m. an 6 p.m. to make it convenient for members of the public to attend. To register for the 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. meeting visit: www.I95EasternCT.com/virtual-meeting1.

Each meeting will have live closed-captioning for the hearing impaired and non-English translation options provided through Zoom.
