Installations and Revisions of Traffic Control Signals at 17 Locations in Various Towns

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to replace existing traffic control signal equipment with new equipment to meet current standards at 17 locations in Bridgeport, East Haven, Madison, North Haven, Stratford, and West Haven. At applicable locations, pedestrian control features (countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pushbuttons, sidewalk ramps) will be upgraded in an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. CTDOT will coordinate with the municipality during the design phase. The following intersections are included:

Traffic Control Signal – New Signal Installation:

  • Madison, Route 79 (Durham Road) at I-95 Northbound Ramps

Traffic Control Signal – Full Replacement:

  • Bridgeport, U.S. Route 1 (North Avenue) at Route 59 (Brooklawn Avenue)
  • Bridgeport, Route 130 (Stratford Avenue) at Hollister Avenue
  • Bridgeport, SR 700 (Fairfield Avenue) at Iranistan Avenue
  • East Haven, Route 337 (Coe Avenue and Silvers Sands Road) at Coe Avenue & Silver Sands Road
  • Madison, Route 79 (Durham Road) at Old Route 79 and Woodland Road
  • West Haven, I-95 Northbound Off Ramp at Campbell Avenue

Traffic Control Signal – Partial Replacement (all equipment except support structures):

  • Stratford, Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) at Honeyspot Road and Honeyspot Road Extension
  • Stratford, Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) at Access Road
  • Stratford, Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) at Surf Avenue
  • Stratford, Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) at Garfield Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard

Traffic Control Signal – Partial Replacement (upgrade pedestrian facilities):

  • North Haven, Route 17 (Middletown Avenue) at U.S. Surgical Corporation Driveway
  • North Haven, Route 17 (Middletown Avenue) at Bernhard Road

Traffic Control Signal – Minor Revision (add GPS unit):

  • Madison, Route 79 (Durham Road) at I-95 Southbound Ramps and Entrance to Oak Park Offices

Traffic Control Signal – Minor Revisions (upgrade controller and GPS unit):

  • Stratford , Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) at Eagles Nest Road and CTDOT Maintenance Garage
  • Stratford, Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) at Watson Boulevard

Traffic Control Signal – Full Replacement:

  • West Haven, U.S. Route 1 (Boston Post Road) at Fairfax Street

It is CTDOT policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.

 

The design plans for this project are expected to be completed in March 2024 with a tentative advertising date of  June 2024.
