DOT's Connecticut River Ferries Resume Seasonal Operation
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of seasonal service tomorrow morning, Thursday, April 8, at 7 a.m., for the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry, the nation’s oldest continuously operating ferry between Rocky Hill and Glastonbury on the Connecticut River. It is the only crossing for cyclists between Hartford and Middletown, providing cyclists a shorter route between the two towns. The ferry, which was scheduled to begin operation on April 1, was delayed due to elevated water levels on the river.
In addition, the state’s sister Connecticut River ferry service, the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry, began its seasonal operation on April 1.
Pedestrians, cyclists, and automobiles are welcome aboard the ferries, with a full season of operation anticipated through November 30, 2021, after interruptions last year as a result of COVID-19. Ferry users are kindly reminded that masks are required for the safety of the crew and passengers.
