CTDOT Announces Launch of New Vision Zero Council Website for Traffic Safety Information and an Invitation for Public Engagement

Vision Zero Council launched its new website and invited the public to participate in working to eliminate roadway injuries and fatalities.

(Newington, CT) – Today, Commissioner Joseph Giulietti announced that the Connecticut Department of Transportation has launched the Vision Zero Council website, a new site that hosts the work of the Vision Zero Council, provides a wide-variety of traffic safety information, and encourages the public to participate in eliminating roadway injuries and fatalities.

Established in 2021 by the Connecticut General Assembly, the Vision Zero Council is an interagency work group tasked with developing statewide policy to eliminate transportation-related fatalities and severe injuries involving pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, motorists, and passengers. The Vision Zero website was developed to keep council members, safety stakeholders, and members of the public appraised of all CT Vision Zero activity. Meeting materials such as upcoming meeting schedules, recordings of past meetings, meeting presentations, meeting minutes, press releases, and other related Vision Zero Council news can be found on the site.

"The Vision Zero Council website makes the work of the council transparent and accessible,” said Garrett Eucalitto, CTDOT Deputy Commissioner and Vision Zero Council Chair. “The Vision Zero Council is off to a great start working to establish a series of recommendations centered on the people of Connecticut. This website will help us keep the public aware of all our efforts and ensure they know how to participate in Vision Zero activities and initiatives as well. We welcome members of the public to get involved and serve on the subcommittees by submitting the participation form on our new website.”

The Vision Zero site provides ways for safety stakeholders and members of the public to participate, interact, and communicate with the Vision Zero Council. Public participation in Vision Zero activities is key to advancing the initiative to eliminate roadway injuries and fatalities. By completing the Connecticut Vision Zero Council Subcommittee Participation Survey, residents and safety stakeholders can express interest in serving on a Vision Zero Council subcommittee. Subcommittee areas include Engineering, Enforcement, Education, EMS, and Equity.

The Vision Zero Council, comprised of the commissioners (or their designees) of the Departments of Transportation, Public Health, Emergency Services and Public Protection, Motor Vehicles, Education, and Aging and Disability Services, the Division of Criminal Justice, and the Office of Early Childhood may also include additional commissioners (or their designees) as additional resources to address transportation safety.

Connecticut safety stakeholders and residents are invited to connect with us through the new Vision Zero Council website at CT.gov/DOT and to check back often as the site grows with the Vision Zero Council.
