CTDOT and Operation Lifesaver Launch Rail Safety Week September 20-26, 2021 with Proclamation Event to Save Lives

CTDOT AND OPERATION LIFESAVER RAISE AWARENESS TO REDUCE RAIL CROSSING CRASHES AND PROCLAIM SEPTEMBER 20 – 26, 2021 AS CONNECTICUT RAIL SAFETY WEEK
(Newington, CT) – Tomorrow at 10 a.m., Senator Richard Blumenthal and Rachel Maleh Executive Director of Operation Lifesaver, join Connecticut Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto, and the lifesaving, safety partners from across Connecticut to raise greater safety awareness and reduce collisions between trains and motor vehicles or pedestrians. They will be joined by Detective Robert Hanson of the Amtrak Police Department, Deputy Police Chief Christopher McAllister of Naugatuck, Fire Chief Joseph Czentnar of Wallingford, and Operation Lifesaver volunteers.
WHAT: Connecticut is a leader in supporting highway-rail grade crossing and pedestrian safety programs. September 20 - 26, 2021 will be proclaimed as Connecticut Rail Safety Week and encourage all citizens to participate in activities to reduce crossing crashes and pedestrian/ railroad trespass incidents during this week and throughout the year.
