    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced today that in the first two years of service operations, the Hartford Line has carried more than 1.2 million passengers. The service, running from New Haven to Hartford and Springfield, began June 16, 2018.

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced additional weekday trains on the Hartford Line beginning Monday, June 1, and several schedule adjustments on Shore Line East.

  • 5/28/2020 Shore Line East 30th Anniversary

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced the 30th Anniversary of the Shore Line East train service. Shore Line East began train service began on May 29, 1990. The fledgling service began with only six trains each weekday between Old Saybrook and New Haven. In 1996, the Department extended service to New London. In 2001, the Department offered limited express service to Bridgeport and Stamford. Prior to recent service reductions due to COVID-19, Shore Line East provides 36 trains per weekday and 21 trains per day on weekends and holidays.

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced the start of substitute bus service on the Danbury Branch commuter rail line, beginning Saturday, May 16, 2020. Ridership has been down since the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic; buses will allow riders to maintain social distancing, and will have the added benefit of allowing rail line infrastructure improvements to progress more quickly.

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and the Connecticut State Police today announced an initiative using electronic highway signs aimed at getting drivers to slow down during the COVID-19 crisis, which has sharply reduced highway traffic volumes, and, at the same time, resulted in a spike in speeding, as well as extreme and dangerously high speeds.

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced rail service changes on Shore Line East and the Hartford Line as part of the State of Connecticut’s coordinated effort to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.
