    This October 1 marks the start of National Pedestrian Safety month, and the Connecticut Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety, along with its partners at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, are reminding all residents about the importance of pedestrian safety.

  • 9/30/2020 FREE MASK DISTRIBUTION TO BUS AND TRAIN RIDERS CONTINUES

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced another series of mask distribution events for bus and train riders on Monday, October 5, 2020, and reminds bus riders that the resumption of fare enforcement and front door boarding on CTtransit buses will become effective the same day.

  • 9/28/2020 GOVERNOR LAMONT UNVEILS FIRST BATTERY-ELECTRIC PUBLIC TRANSIT BUSES

    Governor Ned Lamont, joined by officials from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and Greater Bridgeport Transit (GBT), today unveiled the first two battery-electric buses entering public service in the State of Connecticut at an event at the GBT Intermodal Transportation Center in Bridgeport. The buses feature zero tailpipe emissions and will use 125 kWh electric bus chargers installed at the GBT bus maintenance facility. Each replacement of a diesel bus with an electric bus will avoid 230,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year – the equivalent of planting 5,000 trees.

  • 9/21/2020 FARE ENFORCEMENT AND FRONT DOOR BOARDING TO RESUME ON CTTRANSIT BUSES OCTOBER 5

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced the resumption of fare enforcement and front door boarding on CTtransit buses statewide effective Monday, October 5, 2020. The use of the fare boxes and front door boarding was temporarily suspended statewide due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

    “Operation Lifesaver” – the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s rail safety, awareness, outreach and education unit dedicated specifically to safety at street-level railroad crossings – today announced that National Rail Safety Week is September 21-27, 2020.

  • 9/14/2020 CTrail Hartford Line System Safety Program Plan Approved by FRA

    On September 14, 2020 the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that CTrail Hartford Line System Safety Program Plan (SSPP), submitted by TransitAmerica Services Inc./Alternate Concepts (TASI), was approved by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). This is the first SSPP to be approved by the FRA in the country. It was submitted to the FRA on July 9, 2020.

  • 9/14/2020 FREE MASK DISTRIBUTION TO TRANSIT RIDERS CONTINUES

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced that another statewide mask distribution effort is taking place on September 15th. Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz will be joining transit staff handing out masks on the New Haven Green from 7-9 am.

  • 9/10/2020 GOVERNOR LAMONT COMMEMORATES 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF NEW HAVEN UNION STATION

    Governor Ned Lamont today joined federal, state, and local leaders at a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the opening of Union Station in New Haven, during which his administration signed a letter of intent with the City of New Haven establishing a new partnership agreement designed to launch “a new era in managing the (two) State of Connecticut-owned rail stations in New Haven.” The terms of the partnership include operations at Union Station and State Street Station, capital improvements to the Union Station Campus, and other improvements contemplated for the station area.

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that a new bus route serving Plainfield will begin on September 8, 2020.

  • 8/31/2020 Community Connectivity Grant Program Funding for Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety and Improved Access to Community Centers 

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced a third solicitation for Community Connectivity Grants to towns and cities across Connecticut to fund municipal construction projects. Five million dollars was approved by the State Bond Commission to fund the competitive grant program that supports pedestrian and bicycle safety and improved access to city and town centers for residents of the state.

  • 8/24/2020 CTDOT Announces Extension of Connecticut River Ferry Service

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that service on the two Connecticut River ferries will be extended by an additional seven weeks, to October 25, 2020.
