FREE MASK DISTRIBUTION TO BUS AND TRAIN RIDERS CONTINUES
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced another series of mask distribution events for bus and train riders on Monday, October 5, 2020, and reminds bus riders that the resumption of fare enforcement and front door boarding on CTtransit buses will become effective the same day.
The use of the fare boxes and front door boarding was temporarily suspended as a result of COVID-19 safety precautions. Safety barriers between the driver and the fare boxes have been installed on all CTtransit buses. Other bus systems will also begin fare enforcement on October 5th, with all systems expected to have fare enforcement in place by November 1st.
CTDOT is reminding passengers, “Forgot your mask? Just ask.” Free masks are available to transit passengers at staffed bus and rail ticket sales outlets and onboard trains if a commuter has forgotten their mask.
The use of face coverings on public transportation was ordered by Governor Lamont in Executive Order No. 7BB, effective April 20, 2020 and updated by Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz in Executive Order No. 7NNN, effective August 14, 2020. Since that time, compliance with the order on buses has been exceptional. The distribution of masks at this time is being done to remind passengers of the importance of wearing masks to protect yourself, bus and rail staff, and fellow passengers and to reduce any complacency in light of our achievements as a state.
On October 5th, masks will be distributed at the following locations:
