Public Information Meeting - Restoration of Railroad Freight Operations in Wethersfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation and representatives from Genesee and Wyoming Inc. will present information and answer questions regarding the restoration of freight railroad operations through the town of Wethersfield along the Wethersfield Secondary Branch on March 6, 2019, in the Samuel B. Webb Elementary School at 51 Willow Street, Wethersfield, Connecticut.  The informational meeting will start at 6:00 pm.

As part of an existing operating agreement with the Department of Transportation, the Providence and Worcester Railroad Company, a subsidiary of Genesee and Wyoming Inc., has exclusive rights to operate freight service on the Wethersfield Secondary Branch.   The railroad right-of-way is owned by the Department of Transportation.  Although daily freight operations in the town have been in-active during the past 10 years, the  Providence and Worcester Railroad Company has recently performed maintenance upgrades to the tracks with the intention of resuming regular freight operations in the near future. The Wethersfield Secondary Branch includes a total of 22 public and private at-grade crossings and abuts numerous neighborhoods and private properties.

The meeting facility is ADA accessible.  Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109.  Requests should be made at least five (5) business days prior to the meeting.  Persons having a hearing and/or speech disability may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) and instruct the operator to contact (860) 594-2243.  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.

All persons interested in the pending railroad freight service on the Wethersfield Secondary Branch are welcome to attend the meeting.
