CTDOT Updating ADA/Section 504 Transition Plan
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is updating its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 Transition Plan and is seeking input and involvement from interested individuals and organizations of the ADA community.
Title II of the ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability for State and Local Government Services, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in programs that receive federal financial assistance.
Having completed a review of current policies and procedures regarding employment practices, communications, facilities and accessibility at intersections along state-owned roads, the CTDOT is posting the current draft of the ADA/504 Transition Plan on our website for those wishing to review and comment.
“This project is the result of extensive collaboration from the last several years among CTDOT, stakeholders, partners and interested parties," said CTDOT Commissioner Joe Giulietti. "This Plan establishes a baseline and guidance for accessibility to Connecticut’s transportation system with the goal of making transportation accessible to all users who travel throughout our great state.”

CTDOT is asking that all questions and comments regarding the ADA/Section 504 Transition Plan be submitted by August 19, 2019 to: dot.adatransitionplan@ct.gov.
A GIS map is also available that shows the current level of accessibility of curb ramps and state-owned traffic signals in the State-owned public right-of-way. Future updates to this map will include accessibility of Department owned buildings and other facilities in our right-of-way.
