GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES CONNECTICUT COMPLETES POSITIVE TRAIN CONTROL

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that Route 7 in New Milford is scheduled to be temporarily closed beginning at approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday, December 27, 2018, and reopening at 5:00 AM on Friday, December 28, 2018. The temporary closure is necessary to facilitate the approved movement of a permitted oversize/overweight vehicle carrying a transformer weighing 476,700 pounds on a specialized, 12-axle trailer.

Science Road Railroad Crossing in Norwalk to be Replaced Weekend of September 14-17

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the Walk Bridge Program will replace the railroad crossing on Science Road during the weekend of September 14-17. Buses will substitute for trains on the Danbury Branch during this weekend, as a track outage is necessary to complete this work. Work is anticipated to occur continuously during daytime and nighttime hours, starting at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 14 and ending by 5:00 AM the morning of Monday, September 17.

Weekend Shuttle Service To The Big E For CTrail Hartford Line Passengers

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today the availability of a free weekend shuttle bus for CTrail Hartford Line passengers traveling to the Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Buses will Transport Hartford Line Passengers this Weekend between Hartford and Springfield

Beginning at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, September 7, CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak rail service between Hartford and Springfield will be served by buses. This will allow workers to complete installation of the final section of double track between Hartford and Windsor. Buses will continue to transport passengers on this portion of the Hartford Line corridor until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10.

Construction Update: Town of Windsor – Railroad Crossing Activity

Beginning on Thursday, September 6th at 6:00 a.m. and continuing through Tuesday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m. the existing Central Street railroad crossing in Windsor will be closed to through traffic to allow for improvements to the crossing.

Weight Restrictions Imposed for Cribari Bridge (Route 136) in Westport

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced a 20-ton vehicle weight restriction for the William F. Cribari Memorial Bridge, the historic swing bridge carrying Route 136 over the Saugatuck River in Westport. The decision to impose the restrictions – beginning Tuesday, March 20, 2018 – was the result of the ongoing structural engineering evaluation and inspection of the load capacity of the 19th Century truss bridge.

GOV. MALLOY OUTLINES PROPOSAL TO STABILIZE SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION FUND

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the outline of his administration’s revenue package to stabilize the Special Transportation Fund (STF) and allow for critical investments in the state’s transportation system to take place. Implementation of the administration’s plan for the STF would restore canceled state and municipal projects across Connecticut, and would prevent drastic increases in rail and bus fares and major service reductions on Metro-North, Shore Line East, and CTtransit bus services.

CTDOT Announces Public Hearings on Proposed Fare Increases and Service Reductions

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced a series of seven public hearings to gather input on proposed bus and rail fare increases and service reductions. If approved, a rail fare increase would take effect in three phases – 10 percent on July 1, 2018, 5 percent on July 1, 2020, and 5 percent on July 1, 2021, for a cumulative total of 21.28 percent. A 14.3 percent, or 25-cent, bus fare increase would take effect on July 1, 2018.

Weekend Traffic Notice Regarding Route 82 in East Haddam at the East Haddam Swing Bridge

The CTDOT is announcing that on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at a yet to be determined time, the East Haddam Swing Bridge carrying route 82 across the Connecticut River, will be moved into the open position to allow for the passage of US Coast Guard ice-breaking vessels around and to points north on the river. The bridge will remain in the open position for several hours and there will be no motor vehicle traffic across the river during this timeframe.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker today released a full list of projects totaling $4.3 billion that are postponed indefinitely until new revenue is appropriated for the Special Transportation Fund (STF). The Governor made clear that his administration will announce detailed proposals this month that, if adopted by the General Assembly, would bring the projects back online.

Rail and Bus Service Update

CTtransit express bus service will be suspended due to worsening winter storm conditions. The last express buses from Hartford will depart at 12:20 pm. The last express bus from Waterbury to Hartford will depart at 12:10 pm and the last express bus from Storrs to Hartford will depart at 1:46 pm. Express bus service will remain suspended for the remainder of today. CTfastrak and CTtransit local bus service will continue to operate with snow detours in effect.
