Real-time Information for New Haven CTtransit Buses Now Available

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that real-time bus information for CTtransit’s New Haven Division is now available.

“We are thrilled our customers now have access to important real-time service information in the palm of their hand,” stated CTDOT Commissioner James Redeker. “The new technology will benefit riders by enabling them to make smart travel decisions using real-time bus service information.”

Real-time information for vehicle locations and arrival/departure predictions is made available for free through data feeds that developers can use to create applications for CTtransit’s New Haven customers. For all routes in the New Haven area, this real-time information is currently available on “Transit,” a comprehensive transit application available for iOS and Android devices. When using “Transit,” riders can swipe left or right on each route to show different directions of travel. The information will go live for Google and Apple Maps and other consumers of the free CTtransit data feed as developers incorporate the data.

“Real-time bus service information is part of our ongoing strategy to employ technology to improve our customers’ commute and travel experience,” said Rich Andreski, CTDOT Bureau Chief for Public Transportation.  “These investments in technology are critical to retaining existing customers and attracting the next generation of transit riders.”

CTtransit is the state-owned bus transit system serving the greater Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, Waterbury, New Britain, Meriden, Bristol and Wallingford areas.
