CTDOT Unveils New Real Time Travel information Website
-  Travel Smart Connecticut with CTTravelSmart.org!  -

The Connecticut Department of Transportation today is unveiling its new, real-time travel information website - “CT Travel Smart.” The new system can be accessed via computer or smart/mobile devices at www.CTTravelSmart.org.

“Empowering the motoring public with accurate, verified, up-to-the-minute information regarding traffic information and road conditions has never been more important than it is today with so much relying on our state’s roadway system,” said CTDOT Commissioner James Redeker. “Reducing congestion and getting people, goods and services to their destinations on time is a paramount priority for the CTDOT. Informed travelers can avoid congestion and that is the foundation of why we have created CT Travel Smart – because we want you to travel smart Connecticut!”

The CT Travel Smart traveler information system incorporates data collected from the CTDOT’s robust Statewide Intelligent Transportation System network and Highway Operations Center and consolidates real-time travel information into a customizable, personalized user experience providing dynamic functionality, such as trip planning and subscription services.  Distributing reliable real-time travel information to the general public is a vital part of the Department’s approach to advanced traffic management and roadway incident mitigation – all of which helps reduce travel times and congestion.

CT Travel Smart is not only a real-time travel information tool, but also a travel resource with information pertaining to the state’s transportation related amenities. Features include:
  • An interactive traveler information map with selectable layers to display real-time travel information.
  • List screens to provide information on incidents, travel times, and camera feeds in a list format.
  • Driving and transit trip planning features, allowing users to get accurate real-time travel times for specific trips.
  • Personalization features to allow users to personalize the application to show cameras and routes that are most relevant to them.
  • Services that allow registered users to receive personalized alerts via SMS text or email regarding travel conditions on personalized routes called “MY ROUTES.” Users can select how, when, and for what routes they wish to receive alerts on.
Future phases of CT Travel Smart deployment will include options for multi-modal functionality.  A bus transit feature is now under development for exchanging both static and real-time public transit information, including information about stops, routes, schedule, service alerts, and other details.

“I encourage everyone to visit the CT Travel Smart web site to view the latest in smart travel technology,” said Commissioner Redeker. “Real-time travel information, custom suited to each individual’s needs is what we are offering.  Daily commuters in particular can truly benefit from the functionality of www.CTTravelSmart.org.”

The public is encouraged get familiar with and to explore the flexibility and options offered from the interactive system at www.CTTravelSmart.org.  The system can be accessed on all smart mobile phones/devices and tablets.
