Public Information Meeting on Farmington Commuter Lot Plans -- March 30, 2016

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a Public Information Meeting on March 30, 2016, concerning design of a commuter parking lot (State Project No. 0170-0411) located off Colt Highway at South Road in the town of Farmington. The proposed commuter lot is located on the existing CTfastrak Route 121 which travels between the UConn Health and Manchester Community College via the CTfastrak bus-only roadway. The new parking lot will provide a viable link to the bus rapid transit (BRT) system and will relieve some of the congestion being experienced at CTfastrak station parking lots.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 30, at the East Farms Fire Station, 94 South Road, Farmington, CT. The doors will open at 6:30 PM and the presentation will begin at 7:00 PM.

With the success of CTfastrak, additional parking for the BRT system is required to meet demand.  To meet the demand as quickly as possible, the Department is proposing to finalize the design documents for the aforementioned commuter parking lot.  This parking lot was originally proposed as part of a larger highway interchange project that was deferred indefinitely due to funding constraints a number of years ago.

The first phase of the project will be put out to bid by the Department and will generally include the western portion of the parking lot, a designated parking area for people with disabilities, bus loading platform area and bus passenger shelters. The parking lot is being designed to accommodate the continued use of an existing waste stockpile area (WSA) that is serving the Route 4 Reconstruction Project, State Project No. 0051-260.

The second phase of the project consists of the construction of the remainder of the parking lot on the area that the WSA presently occupies.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department of Transportation’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 by March 29, 2016.

Plans will be available for public review. CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss the project. More detailed information is available at CTDOT’s Office of Public Transportation, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to discuss the project or review the plans may contact Brian Cunningham at (860) 594-3198 or by email at Brian.Cunningham@ct.gov.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with CTDOT personnel.
