Commissioner Redeker Takes Over as President of NASTO

Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker is the new president of the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials (NASTO) – a collaborative of transportation leaders from the Northeastern United States and eastern Canada that works to advance highway, transit and related issues and policies important to the region.

At the NASTO annual meeting this week in Baltimore, Redeker – a career transit professional – assumed the position which was held by Maryland Transportation Secretary Beverley K. Swaim-Staley for the past year.

The Connecticut DOT Commissioner said there are “three C’s” that will keep the region’s transportation agenda moving forward – cooperation, customer service and communication.

“We can get things done, with the resources we need, if we work together as a region,” the Commissioner said. “Our customers are everyday travelers using every mode of transportation – whether in a car, bus, train, airplane, one of the Connecticut River ferries, or on a bicycle or on foot. They count on us to keep the transportation infrastructure in a state-of-good-repair. To do that, we must communicate not only among the NASTO membership but in our capital cities and in Washington.”

About Jim Redeker:

James P. Redeker was named Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation by Governor Dannel P. Malloy on August 25, 2011.  He is responsible for overseeing the statewide system of highway operations and maintenance, capital project design and construction, public transportation, Bradley International Airport and five general aviation airports, and Connecticut’s ports.

Prior to being named Commissioner, Mr. Redeker served as Acting Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of the agency.  He had served as Chief of the Bureau of Public Transportation since joining the department in 2009.  Mr. Redeker joined CTDOT after a 30-year career with NJ TRANSIT.
