Public Information Meetings to be held for the Waterbury and New Canaan Branch Lines Needs and Feasibility Study
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a series of public information meetings will be held for the Waterbury and New Canaan Branch Lines Needs and Feasibility Study.  The public will have an opportunity to hear about study progress and provide input for ideas on how to improve transit service in the corridors.  The information will be used as part of the study to determine the long term needs of these branch lines.
The public information meetings are from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  They will begin with an open house to view study area maps and displays at 6:00 pm, followed by a presentation on a preliminary long list of alternatives at 6:30 pm and then a question/comment period.  Participants are encouraged to stay for the full two hours.
The meetings will be:
  • Tuesday, June 16, at the Waterbury Redevelopment Corporation Building, 2nd Floor Brass City Room, 24 Leavenworth Street in Waterbury, CT
  • Wednesday, June 17, at Derby City Hall, Aldermanic Chambers, 2nd Floor, 1 Elizabeth Street in Derby, CT
  • Thursday, June 18, at Ferguson Library, One Public Library Plaza in Stamford, CT
Participation in these public information meetings is strongly encouraged.  The public opinion and travel information collected will be an important component in developing an improvement plan for these corridors.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is evaluating these branch lines in cooperation with the South West Regional Planning Agency, Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials, Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency, Council of Governments of the Central Naugatuck Valley, the Valley Council of Governments, and other federal, state, and municipal agencies and local stakeholders.  These initiatives will identify needs, evaluate alternatives, and recommend potential improvements for each corridor.  The goal of the study is to develop integrated transportation improvements that foster safety, efficiency, and mobility in the study corridors.
A Study Advisory Committee, comprised of a wide range of stakeholders, is helping to guide each of these initiatives.
