Public Information Meeting – Rehabilitation of Bridge 0051, Rampart Road over Interstate Route 95 in the city of Norwalk, Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge 00051, Rampart Road over Interstate Route 95 in the city of Norwalk, Connecticut. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Room A300 of the Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue Norwalk, Connecticut.

The proposed project involves the replacement of the superstructure with a new two-span continuous shallower superstructure consisting of multiple high performance steel stringers and a reinforced concrete deck on a raised roadway profile to increase the vertical clearance over Interstate Route 95.  Minor substructure modifications will be necessary to accommodate the raised superstructure.

Work is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2010 and be completed in the summer of 2011.  The rehabilitation of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal-aid Off-System funds.  The estimated construction cost for this project is $2,900.000.

The bridge will be closed to traffic during construction.  Traffic will be detoured onto local streets.  Short duration, off peak, partial closures of Interstate Route 95 will be utilized as necessary.  Based on the state highway boundary map, the width of the Interstate Route 95 right-of-way at the site is approximately 300 feet; therefore, no impacts to private property are anticipated.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

Plans will be available for public review.  ConnDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at ConnDOT's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Any one wishing to review the plans may contact Ms. Mary E. Baker at (860) 594-3402 or (860) 563-9375 to make an appointment.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with ConnDOT personnel.
